Title: EIII soundbanks & EMXP
Post by: Glacius on July 11, 2017, 07:39:59 AM
Hello everybody,

I have a lot of libraries for my Emax rack, and after installing Parallels on my mac with windows and taking the time to learn the great EMXP, I was able to convert those banks in EIII format on my computer then on my zip usb drive 250, they load&play fine in the EIII and I'm really impressed and happy because my Emax doesn't have SCSI, so loading time is a joy with the EIII and so is the quality:) My question is: is there the same library specially made for the EIII? Or when converting those Emax I or II library, does the sound quality change from a 12bit machine to 16bit EIII? Or do the banks retains/adapt original quality of the samples for the different machines? Also some files take a different name when converting with EMXP (it seems it takes the name from one of the preset instead of the bank sometimes...) , do you know if there's something to check in EMXP?
Also I would like to know if there are people interested in getting those library converted for the EIII? I could make a wetransfer to people interested. And then you just have to load them on the Zip usb with EMXP.
Thanks in advance for your answer/help & greetings to everybody, this is such a great community with so many useful informations!

Best

Jean

PS: the banks are:

Northstar
Emax stock library
Universe of Sound
Universe of Sound 2
FMS vol. 01
greytsounds Emax II conversion to Emax (small banks only)

Ok so looking at the samples after conversion in the EIII it looks like they are the original Emax sampling frequencies, but the main problem I have is the panning parameters doesn't translate in the EIII, after re-looking in the EMXP manual I can't find any infos about the pan parameter translation between the two. Does somebody knows something about it? In short the presets that are panned in the Emax, aren't panned anymore in the EIII after conversion. Is there a solution for this?

Hi, the EMXP conversion engine has an algorithm which translates Emax voice panning parameters to Emulator-III voice panning parameters. But the translation is not linear. Moreover it also depends on the chorus parameter and the dual voice/stereo voice parameters in the original EMAX banks.
I think the easiest way to check if the algorithm is working properly is by sending me one of your EMAX banks with panned voices via e-mail (to esynthesist at yahoo dot com). If there's a bug in EMXP, I will fix it asap; if there's another reason why the panning is not translated I will let you know.

Regarding some of your other questions:
- the sound quality of the converted samples should be the same as the quality of the original samples, with the same sample rate (unless you have specified in the EMXP conversion settings that the Emulator-III samples should have lower sample rates). And of course the compressed 8 bit sample data is converted to 16 bit PCM sampled data.
- Emax banks don't really have a bank name; the name is derived from the preset which was active (current preset) when saving the bank to disk on the Emax sampler. EMXP uses the same method.

Hi, many thanks for your answer & details!!
So I was going to send you the file, and I just re-loaded the Emax bank to compare, and... coming back from a live concert of the weekend I just noticed my panning was in fact wrong, the sound was coming in mono from my mixer, one of my monitor button was not pushed!! Ah I feel really stupid, sorry the conversion in fact worked like a charm! Stereo image is perfectly translated! That is so great, this software you created is just crazy! I can't imagine the time it has taken you... it is so so incredibly useful & great. Many many thanks!!!

Kind regards

Jean
