Title: Emulator II+HD SCSI??
Post by: EII4ever on July 15, 2017, 02:32:56 AM
I've followed this thread (http://eiiiforum.com/index.php?topic=3090.0) in which I'm in the same position as seamonkey. I've an EII+HD which I'm thinking of upgrading with HxC or a SCSI2SD but apparently the EII+HD is not SCSI.

I've found this EPROM on eBay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Emu-E-mu-Emulator-II-HD-SCSI-Version-2-6-firmware-OS-update-EPROM-/162346653454?hash=item25cc9d570e:g:eEoAAOSwjDZYbdx-) which states that it's an SCSI EPROM Upgrade (Emu E-mu Emulator II HD SCSI Version 2.6 firmware OS update EPROM).

So my questions are:

1.) if the EII+HD is not SCSI would it be possible to convert it to SCSI to implement the SCSI2SD or any other solution apart from HxC

2.) would the SCSI2SD be loading faster emulating a HD instead of the HxC which emulates the floppy drive?

Any help would be very much appreciated

The EII has a non standard SCSI interface. It is similar to SCSI but not exact the same.

Loading a bank from a HD taks 4 sec.
Loading a bank from Floppy takes 30sec.
Reciving a bank by the EMuSer takes 15 sec.

Thanks Wolfram! Do you know if it's possible to replace the HD with either a SCSI2SD or something similar instead of HxC?

Regards

As I saved it is not SCSI so it is not compatible.

So even not the external CD-ROM is not standard SCSI?

Basically the only options are HxC and EMuSer?

No, the external 25 pin connector is a RS422 interface.
The best thing you can do is build a EMuSer and send the Sounds from your Computer to the EII.

I've just found out about something new (at least to me) for all Emulator II+HD owners that would like to have a solution to emulate the HDD rather than a FDD with HxC. Check out: https://www.drem.info/

Apparently it has been tested with the Emu II+HD

... mind you it's not as cheap as a SCSI2SD.

SCSI2SD is very limited , 6 image disks and will never work with an Emu II anyway.
DREM has an UNLIMITED image disks, you can select them with a small screen that is now inside the Emu II.

Hi FrancoisR,

I've seen your video on FB and it looks impressive. Well done! Without the monitor & keyboard can you swap between disk images?
