Yes, thats right. I really wonder about my EI. I was told that, when the sequencer was implemented, Steve Rossum personally visited 'early' owners to install it (as with other upgrades, for example redesigned motherboards..) If anybody's interested in finding out more about the #001B EI, go ahead and keep me updated about it ;) I tried to contact so many people, no one had answers about its history... @Escobar: The sound is really really different to the EII. It's much more lo-fi, but I like it. It has some machine character to it, more than the EII. It sounds metallic. Anyway, mine doesn't work properly anymore anyway.. Greetz, Elm. Title: Re: Cool... (BTW: I bought a E1 a few years back for the cost of renting one for day in 1983...) About the E1 Sound : I always found it had a kind of 'Mellotronish' Character; the Envelope (or rather the not-Envelope) helps obviously, but besides being Lo-Fi in a very nice way it's also a little 'Low Speed Tape-like', much more than the E2. A lot of Character which makes it IMHO very useful still today. It's far off the Sampling Rate and Resolution reducing Plug Ins ! Title: Re: Cool... Greetz, Elm. ok I read somewhere that actually they made 2 pieces of Emulator I with serial number 001 one went to S.Wonder and im not sure where was second sended...couse they wanted big players to have first emus for marketing but they promissed 2 persons that they will get 001 Emulator so they made 001A and 001B so your is one of 2 first made probbably second :p Title: Re: Cool... I havent switched it on for years now, and I remember that sometimes it worked, sometimes not... It needs good servicing for sure to come to life again. To me its just a collectors item. I've ended up with EI S/N 355. It lived in a barn for 20+ years, with the requisite dust bunnies, spider webs, and bird poop (!). It boots up, all LED's work, all power supply voltages are correct (not having found you guys yet I bought a PDF copy of the service manual from Rob at Emulator Archive), and the drive spins and seeks. I got some formatted disks from a fellow Analogue Heaven member, but apparently none of them have the OS on it, and none of them are the User Sampling disk, so I still can't actually boot the machine past powering it up! Is there anywhere besides Emulator Archive (who is in the UK) to get a copy of the actual OS disk? Thanks, Eric |
