My EII took a dive last week. Fell 6 feet, diagonally, taking out a corner chunk of a wooden desk, then hitting a wooden floor with an almighty crash. Half the keys broke. I feared the worst. Opened it up, cleared the broken pieces of plastic, realigned the two disk drives (as they'd slipped), re-sat the ICs (they'd drifted anyway due to socket 'creep'), re-sat the keys that were left intact, checked all PCB's... plugged in, switched on... and it seems fine! It's at times like these that I can appreciate the sheer weight and build quality of that generation of kit.
