Yes, how I agree...

E-Synthesist's recent research results finally made him the official E-Mu Vintage God.

"How blessed can a geek-community get?" is what I was wondering the past days.

The possibilities he opens up (whether with EMXP, or any other thing he touches...) even quadruples the magic of our old beloved gear. Thank you so much for your work - and for sharing it!

Just wanted to release my joy by starting this topic.  Smiley

PS.: ".....Emulator Software & SP"  -   SP?!? Why's that? Did I miss something?!

You must be my biggest fan  Grin

By the way I'm also wondering what SP means... if it's the SP series of Emu drummachines then perhaps someone is pushing me to support those too in EMXP  Wink

I know, I know..   Roll Eyes   Got a twelve.
But... As you take a look in the News-headline on top of the forums page: "News: All Hail esynthesist God of Emulator Software & SP"

As E-synthesist hasn't done any software for the SAMPLING PERCUSSION (yet... Wink ,
I was wondering what "SP" means in THIS particular context.

Peace,
Elm.

I was hoping he would, so I thought I might as well write it up there.

I think all the sp users at sp1200.myfastforum.org would really enjoy it

O well,  no problem at all !
If anyone can send me an SP1200 and SP12 for free please  Grin

The point is: I'm not really a drumcomputer fan, so besides the "obligatory" TR808 and R8 machines I don't own any drummachine. If I would have the chance to buy an SP1200 very cheap, I wouldn't doubt about adding SP support to EMXP. But I have the feeling that the "1200" stands for the price in EUR on the second hand market (well, at least in the area of Belgium).
SP12 seems to be much cheaper, but I'm wondering what kind of feature I could add to EMXP for this machine ? It seems not to have a diskdrive, right ? OK, it accepts Commodore 5 1/4 drives but would this be the gateway from EMXP to the SP  Huh Or does it have a serial port ? In that case I probably will have the same communication issues as I'm fighting with right now with the Emulator II  Wink

you can midi dump sounds with sp

Recomendation 4 the fastest mac for the alchemy program 4 sp

http://sp1200.myfastforum.org/sutra3289.php&highlight=#3289

"Finally had some success trasnferring samples to/from the SP1200 to an OSX Mac.
I'm using Elektron's C6 sysex program to initiate the sample dumps. It's not as hands off as Alchemy.

You must touch the SP1200 front panel, but it gets the sample moving.   The AIFF files are a bit shakey, but the WAVs are fine.
It's not as slow as I remember transfers being either. But drum sounds are small anyway.

Peace.

Sample dump for both SP-12 & SP-1200?

Indeed, the SP-12  doesn't have a diskdrive.

But it can communicate with vintage Macs, as the EII can , too.

I got this Software "SP-12 librarian" (quite rare - I bought it some time ago from the original developer) for my Mac SE, with which you can receive/send whole Sample Banks with sequences in both directions (to back them up, catalogue them etc.).

"SP-12 librarian" produces kind of the files that SoundDesigner produces for the EII - I'm no expert, but I assume that these should be quite similar to each other.
(I think this ONLY functions with the old SP-12, not with the overestimated 1200.)

I think it would be pretty cool to have an EMXP feature for the SP-12, especially in terms of sending SP-12 banks to the EIII (and its sophisticated Sequencer Roll Eyes).

OK, I understand the SP12 potential for EMXP. It's kind of the same as with the EII support:
1/ support for the files coming from the Mac, including translation to Emu sampler formats such as EIII, but (as with the EII) no disk support;
2/ communicating directly with the SP12 via serial interface.
Probably the first option is possible. I assume the second one will not be possible because the whole serial port thing will probably be the same as in the EII, so I'll have the same signal level problems...

But (and did I mention it before ?  Grin ) I don't have an SP12. There's one for sale here but they're asking 1000 EUR, including a diskdrive but without any disks. I think that's way to expensive, isn't it ?

It's WAAAAYYYYYYYYYY  too expensive.
I be seeing those all the times, selling for MAX 600 Euros (turbo with drive).

Of course, the second solution you mentioned ist even 'more' impossible than to establish a serial connection between PC <-> EII (as the SP doesn't even have a serial port: the SP <-> Mac Connection functions via MIDI somehow).

It's just about the same thing as with the EII:
Encode the "SP-12 Librarian" files (on Mac Zip disks) in EMXP and translate them to EIII/Emax... (maybe the other way round, which would be of few use...)

To port the SP-sampled sounds to the EIII would be pretty much fun I guess...
I consider the EIII as a perfect electronic Drumset; sound- and sequencer-wise.
And having the crispiness of the SP-sampled sounds on the EIII's keys....  Tongue

If you consider buying an SP at all:
Its very cool, and it makes you an addict pretty sure. Swinging and swaying...  Grin
And it's gear porn if mounted besides the EII   HAH   Grin

Elmbeatz ,

do you have the SP-12 and EII next to each other for us to see this gear porn as you say?

that would look pretty wicked.
