1. connect scsi drive to sampler
2. turn on scsi zip drive
3. turn on sampler
4. in sampler set scsi id to 5 or 6 (depends on the id of the zip drive - http://www.iomega.com/support/manuals/zip2s/images/man_zip2scsi_switch.gif)
5. then you should be good to go - go to load samples and it should find the scsi drive

always have the scsi device turned on before you boot the sampler

heres the manual
http://en.wikiaudio.org/images/2/27/E-Mu_ESI-32_Manual.pdf

1. Activate Master/Global module.
2. Select 7. Disk Utilities, 0. SCSI Setup (7/0).
3. Select the new SCSI ID number.
SCSI SETUP
ESI-32 SCSI ID: 5

so you should change the scsi id on back of zip to 6, since esi and zip should have different ids

more info from manual:

Use the “Mount Drives” utility (Master/Global, Disk Utilities, 1) whenever an external SCSI device does not appear in the list of available devices.

from the above manual:

pg 32
The Drive Select Button selects which storage device will be used when
loading or saving. The ESI-32 may have an internal hard disk and/or
several external SCSI devices connected. Drive Select allows you to select
which storage device will be used.

pg 38
To Connect an External Hard Disk Drive
1. Turn all power Off to the ESI-32 and the external drive.
2. Connect the external drive to the ESI-32 using the proper type
of SCSI cable. This will most likely be a 50-pin, male to male
Centronics type. (Please read the SCSI section in this manual for
important information on SCSI connections.)
3. Turn On the external SCSI device BEFORE the ESI-32.
4. Turn On the ESI-32.

pg 68

Disk Utilities include several additional numbered subsections. Here are
brief descriptions of each subsection. More extensive descriptions follow.
0. SCSI Setup: Allows you to change the ESI-32's SCSI ID number
and configure SCSI for a Macintosh on the bus.
1. Mount Drives: Instructs the ESI-32 to check the SCSI bus for the
presence of SCSI devices.

last but not least
