I too am really into the Mode and understand your point of view when it comes to Alan Wilder.
It is the very reason that I got into E-mu samplers after I saw 101 and their Emax turbos on stage.
But if you want my opinion, (this is purely from my findings in this sound quest) the Drumulator will not do you much good. Like the other guys have said, you will be much more pleased with an EII, EIII or any of the Emax line. I have a mint condition Drumulator that I have never even used in my studio. I just came across it for a good price and bought it just because. I doubt if I will ever actually use it for anything but a conversation piece.
I have found that if you are new to E-mu stuff and sampling etc, then an Emax 1000 is a great starter unit for you to get your head around things. The reason for this (I found) was that the Emax 1000 only has half a meg or sample ram and that really makes you creative in the sounds/samples you create. You are always coming up with clever ways to come up with great material without running out of sample memory. And trust me, you will!
That being said, I have two EII's that I have never even used as of yet because I have no operating disks for them and I need to upgrade/repair and retrofit them. I am waiting to get an old mac and software so that I can fully exploit all that the machine is capable of.
My honest opinion for yourself would be to get into either an Emax or EII that need no work done to them. Plug and play.

What's an Emax 1000?!  Huh   D'you mean the Emax 1?  I'm with you - that one was my first sampler back then. great machine, super low price nowadays.

YOU HAVE TWO EIIs AND DON'T USE THEM?HuhHuh

I just had to drive through a blizzard to get to work today. It sucked. Badly.
Anyway, if anyone feels so inclined, I could Paypal funds to cover a disk and shipping.
