Been wanting to know this for years. The short one may be a sample but I'm pretty certain the longer one is a factory...the reason why the second one is so short is because they are the only instances of that sound in the entire song.

Neither sound like anything in the libraries I've heard. Depeche Mode did their own samples and sound layering on almost everything.

it´s one of my favourite DM sounds ever. If you want live, the beginning. I think it´s an mix of more sounds made on the Synclavier of Daniel Miller.

Damn. Thanks anyway, i was hoping against hope it was EII. I love that sound. Alan Wilder used it in his first Recoil demos too.

Should be pretty easy with the E-Mu brothers, too (at least the filter's envelope). You just have to find some decent waveform samples. Maybe layering two...
