Title: Display dead but LE Foil works
Post by: Windefalk on August 13, 2012, 06:31:49 AM
Hi everyone! I have a problem that I can't solve despite great advice from the guys at yahoo group.
I haven't got an answer for this one so I think everyone's just tired to help me =)

"The display on my emax was dead so I bought a EL Foil and solder it on.
Now it´s backlit but still no characters. I have connected another board with a
working display on and it works.
When I detached the display the little plastic clamp that holds the two pins to
the board wasn't soldered to the holes on the board. I looked at the other
working board and it had the two pins soldered onto the board so I soldered the
"leads" that goes from the plastic thingy where the pins are. Hmm.. do anyone
understand what I mean?

Test day 2

I have done some testing with a multimeter. All 14+2 pins from display board to
button board ok. All traces from display pin holes to flat cable ok. Every lead
in flat cable ok. I connected the button board and digital board and measured
the soldered points between the connectors. No broken leads and still no
characters on the display. Backlight works tho!

Its hard to know exactly what you are referring too, I suggest you put up a picture. Before you replaced the foil did the screen display any characters? If it didn't then something is wrong with the display. Just replacing the Back Light will not fix it.

I have replaced some back light foil on a few machines and the displays can be easily damaged.
