Post by: WATZ on January 17, 2010, 04:07:38 PM
Hi everybody,

this is my first posting.
I wish you a happy and prosperous new year!

Has anybody experience with an Emulator II and a Macintosh Performa 5200 with Sound Designer?

Look forward to hearing from you.

best regards
Watz

No Mac OS 9.0.4 possible!!!

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75103
--------------------------------------------------------
Some Performa or Power Macintosh 5200 series, 5300 series, 6200 series,
and 6300 series models cannot use Mac OS 9.0.4 or 9.1 until a hardware problem is fixed.
The repairs are covered under the Apple repair extension program.
To see if your computer has this hardware problem, use the 5xxx/6xxx Tester utility
in the Utilities folder on the CD before installation.

--> The Tester utility says an upgrade is not possible until this hardware problem is fixed

Sound designer for EII requires Mac OS 6.x or 7.x. Maybe Os 8.x will work, too...

Sound Designer will definitely NOT run under OS 9.

As you may have seen from another post I sent I have been having problems with Mac to Emulator II communications.  Although the SD software on my Performa 630 was able to communicate with the EII it was very intermittent.  That was on OS 7.5.

I got hold of a Mac Classic last week and the software works perfectly.  I would recommend you get a mac from this era such as the classic or SE.  I have a feeling that the serial and modem ports may be a slightly different configuration on later models which can cause communication problems.

Good luck.
