Hi,

I'm from Germany and my english is  very bad ...sorry

I have problems with my EMU II:

I bought it in 1988 - one of the disk drives was damaged.

I send it to a technician and he repaired the unit and updated it to V3.1

I had no problems for about 15 years , then I stop making music ..and I didn't play the sampler for the last seven years...

As I try to play it last month, the System Disk didn't boot anymore .

I thought it was damaged and get a new one from Route66 Studios.

Now the Emu II boots the OS Disk normally, ( Display:  P01 NULL PRESET ) but when I Try to load a Sound I get an 'OverlayLoadError' message.

I couldn't solve this problem till I found the following note referring to Software Version 3.1:

EMULATOR II
SOFTWARE VERSION 3.1 AND 3.1 HD

Bla, bla, bla....features.. bla

Installation of Version 3.1

Version 3.1 includes new disk software , and a new scanner EPROM (3.0)

The EPROM should be installed by a qualified service person.

and here it comes…

You should copy the 3.1 sofware to your other sound diskettes to avoid
the error message “Overlay Load Error”.

To Update the Software : Boot up your E2 using the 3.1 software, then key in the Copy Software function ( SPECIAL 14). The display will say: Copy will Erase Memory. OK?
To which you should reply YES. The E2 will load the 3.1 software into it’s memory the say: Insert Destination Disk in Drive 1…..bla bla

My problem now :

I press the button SPECIAL

the display says  CATALOG FUNCTIONS  USE SLIDER A

Then I move SLIDER  A till the display says :

14 WRITE SOFTWARE

and when I try to tip 1 and 4 on the numerical pad
to copy the software to the sound diskette the display always returns to

CATALOG FUNCTIONS USE SLIDER A

Please help me !!!

I cant believe it...

First :

Light uop your machine with the latest software verion diskette you have.
Special, etc...
Use the slider A to choose "COPY SOFTWARE"

Your diskette MUST HAVE  a sticker

that's what I've done ...
when I go to Special and try to tip 1 and 4 the display always returns to

"Catalog Functions USE SLIDER A"

diskettes are not protected...

-Special 11 Catalog Functions -- works - goes to "Catalog functions Use Slider A"

-Special 12 Channel Disable-- works - Enter flashes-   display : "CHANNS. OFF (1-8)"

-Special 13 Trim Channels -- works --Enter flashes-   display : "161616161616
                                                                                              161616161616"

Special 14 Write Software ( NOT COPY SOFTWARE !) returns to "Catalog functions Use Slider A"  the same as in Special 11

Special 15  Load Trims-- works--  Enter flashes-  display : "Insert Trim Disk in Drive 2"

Special 16 Mac Intosh Int Software Rev. 3.1--when I tip 1 and 6 the E2 tilts and I have to power the E2 down and boot again the OS Disk
