Title: EIII live on stage, anyone done this?
Post by: dvdborn on August 12, 2009, 02:33:38 PM
I'm thinking off buying a second EIII keyboard for live use.

I always thought that an Emulator on stage looked really cool (Think Front 242, Depeche Mode, ...). And of course the sound is huge.

So, has anyone ever took their EIII with them on stage?
What was your experience? Repairs, stability, ...

David

My advise is do NOT move this synth around, it is really made for studio.. Or build a real cosy case to absorb any road shock.. and make sure the EIII is always handled real carefully.. I reckon this is a risky stake. What I do is transfer sounds needed for into another sampler and tweak to ear.. (actually a E6400 Ultra). Yes, the sound loses a bit of depth (occupation of space), but even if you will feel that while checking sounds from the sampler with the EIII, you won't feel it on stage.

Never move an EIII from it's last full working position!  :) ;)

There is only one reason anyone would want to use it live and that's just to show off that you have an EIII.  Frankly 98% of the crowd doesn't care or know what it is anyways.  Buy a $129 Emu midi controller.   Not worth the risk or hassle man.  Too heavy and too big, and there are cheaper and better solutions.

Buy a $129 Emu midi controller.

Plus a wrecked eIII - take the eIII casing and put the midi controller inside.
I always wanted to do this with an EII casing which I still have lying around.
