Title: EIII keyboard LCD
Post by: Dimensional Space on June 14, 2011, 09:09:36 AM
Does anyone know what 20x4 LCD the EIII keyboard uses.   The EIIIX uses the
20x4 Optrex DMC20434 LCD.   Does the regular EIII keyboard use the same part?

Does anyone know for sure?

I am watching my spare LCD for EIII Rack: Optrex PWB20II-CEM...

Although I don't know which model LCD is in the Emulator III, I'm in the process of replacing mine with a Noritake VFD like you did with your Emulator II. My EIII keyboard is with my tech now, and he said fitting a VFD won't be a problem. I'll find out from him what Noritake model he's using as soon as he gets started on the project.

well talking with Richard at EPR he said"  According to the database I have the EIII keyboard (model 6081) used an LP313 which was the Optrex DMC20434. "

Then talking to Casey at Noritake he stated

"James,

Attached is the spec which I found.
Unfortunately, this is not full spec and I need additional information to be sure.

Closest item is
CU20045-UW5J or CU20045-UW4J
The difference between UW5J and UW4J is DD RAM address only which Optrex spec does not show it.

Please send me full spec sheet for DMC20434.
I need DD RAM address mapping.

CU20045-UW5J, CU20045-UW4J
price is $105.89ea at single qty.
stock available.

Thanks,

Casey "

So we need to know the  DD RAM address mapping info.  And then the VFD is $105 plus tax (if in California) and shipping, and then if you want a colored acrylic filter then add that price.  They WILL NOT break a pack of 50.  I have begged, pleaded, pouted, etc, and they will not sell those colored filters seperately.  I was able to get mine for the EII very creatively but I am not gonna hold my breath for a second one.

Ask your tech or should we contact Optrex for the full .pdf or maybe I will look online further.

oh, and Roger.   Pipe in at any time if you know which display we need.  Don't be a snake in the grass just waiting and waiting to snag your display behind the scenes, and then post pics to rub our faces in it like you did with the EII.

Do you know?  Either the UW5J and UW4J?

The correct answer is: CU20045-UW5J

This document here has extended information on the Optrex dmc20434:

http://ecee.colorado.edu/~mcclurel/lcdguide.pdf (http://ecee.colorado.edu/~mcclurel/lcdguide.pdf)

Comparing the the DDRAM addressing given in it to the UW5J datasheet is a hit.  To the UW4J a fail.

Other valuable info there concerning timing thats over my head.   ???  Can anyone else read?

Don't dawdle if any folks know... all 20x4 displays discontinued at Noritake.  Stock still with Mouser etc.

pot.

Ok, great.  Thanks for the info.

I will order a CU20045-UW5J with blue filter.

It won't be installed for a while but good to have the parts.

Next is my 1200 and Emax 1.   I had the Forat display put in but it's kinda boring now.  I think I might try one of the new OLED displays.   Those are tits.

OLED ?!?!  WHAT  ??  WHERE  ??  PLEASE - could you post a link?

This.  I want this.  Has anyone worked out where to source the 5V for an LED display?
Obviously the inverter for the EL Foil is removed but...

For our UK & Antipodean peeps the MIDAS - MC42005A6W-BNMLW - LCD from Farnell/elment14 looks like a likely suspect.  I intend to try this one myself.

I don't have an EIII, but i replaced displays in both my SP-12. I just got the 5V from an LED onboard (The LED still works). I haven't had any issues so far.

I bought this LCD and it works except the LED backlight.
It´s a 5v light.
I removed the HV inverter and took the 5v direct to the
backlight, but I believe it´s to heavy load for the 5v PSU
It consumes 260mA and the EIII won´t booth up,
and  the PSU is calibrated to 5.05v.

Anyone have a tip what to do to solve this?

ok. :D
when looking closer at the datasheet I saw the backlight needed 4.2v
took down the 5.05v to 4.2 with a resistor and now it works fine.
So that was the reason it didn´t boot.

A guy here in sweden is selling these cheap(half the price of a foil backlight) so let me know if you need any.
