Title: Does anyone have the EII memory test disk?
Post by: Futureman on March 07, 2011, 02:00:39 PM
I'm trying to resurrect another EII, and I'm thinking that maybe some of the ram is corrupt.

Does anyone have this disk, or an image of it?

Cheers
Mike

I have the memory test disk, and I just ripped an image of it using KryoFlux and sent it to E-Synthesist, who posted it on the EMXP site! So you can download it there for free.

The trick is that KryoFlux does not support writing floppy disks (yet), so the image may not be useful without an HxC floppy emulator. If you need a copy on a real floppy, however, I would be happy to make one for you if you cover postage and the cost of a disk. E-Synthesist may be willing to help you as well...

I have two different memory disks and a scanner disk.

I hope you will first take a copy before selling them ?
They are quite rare ! Especially the scanner and universal sound test disk.

Copying can be done on an E-II as follows:
- boot E-II with normal OS disk (e.g. 3.1) in the first drive
- go into the Disk->8. Format Disk option
- !! Now remove the OS disk from the first drive and insert the "special disk" (memory test, universal sound test, ...) !!
- put the destination disk into the second drive
- Answer "Yes" when asked if you're sure to erase the memory
- Choose "1.Performance Disk", wait while the E-II is reading the special disk (E-II thinks it's reading the OS)
- Confirm that the Destination disk is in the drive and start the formatting process
- In addition it is recommended to also do a Copy Disk afterwards (to copy any data of the "special disk" which may be in the "sound" area too). Especially with disks like the Universal Sound Test disk this may be necessary to have a complete copy.

After the this process, the new disk should contain the special feature.

You can test this by re-booting the E-II with the new disk in the first drive. The display should show that it has just loaded the special disk (e.g. memory test disk will immediately start testing the memory)

By the way: I'm interested to buy the Scanner disk and Universal Sound Test disk ! Shipping to Belgium...

Thanks for this description, e-synthesist!

I don't have these disks neither, but maybe soon there'll be some more copies of those around - hopefully.
Anyway - good to know how to duplicate them.

By the way: I added a step to that description about also copying the sound data part with Copy Disk afterwards - I edited/modified my previous post directly...

Is it a 3-disk set or a 4-disk set ?
The pictures show 2xMemory Test, 1xScanner Test and 1xUniversal Sound Test.
