Hi there

I recently bought an used and broken emulator 2.
The problem is that it doesnt start up when i power it on...

The two leds of the disc drives flashes for half a second and nothing happens...
I already opened it up and cleaned all contacts..this works for a while but the emulator powers off after 1-2 minutes... also the display seems to be not working

What can i do first? The problem is that i absolutely have no discs for that machine...
Do i need a system disc or something??

Yes, you need an EII 5.25" floppy disk to boot the machine, a library disk will have the operating system on, usually Ver 2.3 or 3.1.

Only the EII + HD has a hard drive to boot it (if still working). The fact the floppy drive LED's flash mean it's waiting for a disk.

You can buy new library disks from Northstar here:

You also certainly have a power supply problem.
If you have no clue about electronics, do nothing.
If you know, open the machine, take the poser supply away : be carefull, take away the power plug before, the power supply is LIVE even if the machine is shut !
Unscrew the poser supply from its bracket, the solderings under the Molex connector are certainly bad, crackeled.
Take away the solder, put some new, clean it, put the ower supply back into the machine, verify everything, verify again, verify your verification, power-up the machine when you have some diskette PERFORMANCE diskette, the LIBRARY diskettes don't have software on it !

Sounds like a I-know-what-to-do-this-weekend

Im not an electronic engineer but electronics are nothing new to me...
So i think i can do this... hope your description is enough to get it done...

I've already opened the machine and replugged all connectors... even cleaned some of them with alcohol...

I wonder if this will bring life into my EII.... cant wait to do it

If it doesn't work, pick up your machine an drive ~120km in north direction, im living near straßbourg in germany.

Then we can compare the voltages with my machine!

It doesnt work....

Same problem as usual... display is now completly dead...
From time to time the emulator starts and some of the LED on the panel are on...
but the most time it dies a 0.5 second after i powered it on...

SOLDER under the power connections they always go bad..the molex pins as well can be faulty.
some people solder direct to the PC board as well..
