Title: Emulator 4 K Issue
Post by: midipuppies on August 03, 2009, 03:22:34 PM
Hey guys, I just picked up an E4K Turbo board :P. So when I switch it on, the display goes solid black and all the panel leds stay on. The floppy does not engage or light up. The scsi drive does not spin up either. Basically, it makes no startup sounds at all. I have checked all the boards and ram and they are all secured firmly. Power supply or floppy is my guess.
I just rekon that you guys have knowledge of most things E-mu, so I posted. (Thanks Doc)

The questions and advices I am giving here are as well usefull for EIIIs and other machines.

Do you hear a whistle (not forceably in the audio) ?
Disconnect the front panel, power up (don't worry, just do it). Does the SCSI drive spin ?

Finally got around to working on this.
Drive does not spin up.
I disconnected the front panel, but nothing has changed.

In this case, reconnect your front panel, disconnect the hard disk (if its internal, disconnect the flat cable and the power supply) and power-up. Something is crashing the data/adress buss.
We are no yet fixing your machine, we are trying to diagnose a problem.

So, if anyone ever has this problem on an E4K (or any EOS unit for that matter), i figured out that it was the PSU bringing the whole thing down. Strange I know, but that was the issue. Works like a champ now.
Now if I could just get that EIII working......... :P
