Title: TECH talk on Emulator II Post by: roginator on October 08, 2008, 02:59:54 AM this text I just got from EII yahoo group ....so....
I was thinking about few simple upgrades on my EII and SP12 ;D ******************************************************** E2 is prone to rare chip failure - S3528 switched capacitor and SSM filter chip. These are hard to find, so buy some now as spares! E2 power supply overheats the PCB's and then voices cut out. Power supply often fails but is repairable E2 hard disk is now well past its life. Molex interconnects can fail I'd replace the Tantumlum bypass caps, as they are 25 years old and will die causing more problems Other than that its pretty much ok and uses sensible parts and a good 2 PCB layout. ******************************************************** whell I have spare ssm2045 but s3528 would be clever to get ;) molex are east to clean and tantalum caps can be replaced overnight...BUT!!!! I believe that PSU needs more ... since it runs very hot I would do 3 things to make it live longer 1. Recap it totally with HI end caps :) PANASONIC, ELNA or NICHICON...... capacitors must be 105 degrees to survive longer in hot area 2. Main Filters on power rails pump value x2 ...... you have enough place couse since 84 capacitors are 4 time bigger values than then and still same size that will give little better curent to our EMUs 3. Instaling a fan inside with regulation of fa on back would be bingo....something like EIII :) I instaled FAN in my ensoniq ASR 10 and since then it works flowless!!! so that would be cool idea I believe that 3 things will give emu LOOONG life soon I will do that to mine and do some report back ;) any other sugestion???
