Hard drive interrupter mechanism shot. Sending to Seagate for possible repair/recovery. (not optimistic about the outcome) Installed CF drive. All internal ribbon cables either completely shot or very close to it. Replaced all. Power supply not functioning correctly. Replaced with a 'spare'. Something burnt out on CPU card (not sure what yet), replaced card with 'spare' for now. Something burnt out on 3rd card from bottom of cage (not sure what yet), replaced card with 'spare' for now. Bunch of memory IC's blown. Replaced memory as needed. 5 bad voices. Were already disabled. Back light out. Not going to bother with that one. Title: Re: Alan Wilder's EIII Post by: midipuppies on October 08, 2011, 11:31:54 AM It looks as if the SCSI cable to the external interface shorted out on something. It was bare and melted in a couple of places. That probably did all of the damage at once. It looked fairly catastrophic.
Another thing is the age of it. It's an early machine for sure. It's been serviced in the very early 90's (service notes), and there are no factory stickers on the back. No serial number. No model number. Also it has one of those huge early hard discs. All of the internal ribbons were really brittle and were physically worn from abrasion. I'll leave it be I think. I'd rather it stay original than be a different machine on the inside. Hard core Mode fan till the end I guess :)

To leave it off in the corner as some type of non working museum piece is a waste of the spirit of DM IMHO. I can guarantee everytime you tell someone, the conversation will most likely go like this.... "off in the corner is an EMU EMULATOR lll once used by Alan Wilder" "does it work?" "no" "oh, that's a shame!" Working Elll's are becoming harder and harder to get, and to have one once owned and used by Alan is a treasure. The EIII is now completely repaired and upgraded. I used the CF drive from another project and fixed everything else. It is 100% now with all voices working.
