Title: Oberheim DPX-1 Schematics / Service manual wanted. Post by: Futureman on January 28, 2012, 11:38:07 AM Does anyone here please have a Oberheim DPX-1 service manual?
I'm fixing 2 up and installing HxC on one of them.. The service manual would help very much with the repair. Kind regards Mike Title: Re: Oberheim DPX-1 Schematics / Service manual wanted. Post by: Elmbeatz on April 11, 2012, 04:13:45 PM have you succeeded in installing a hcx into the oberheim?
i'd like to do it too, and would appreciate any information about installing it. greetz, elm. Title: Re: Oberheim DPX-1 Schematics / Service manual wanted. Post by: Futureman on April 12, 2012, 03:16:17 AM Yea, did it.
I fixed up the power supply as well without the schems. A very easy install overall. I had to make a new "IDC -> IDC -> Floppy" cable, but thats about it. (Sorry for the lousy photo) Title: Re: Oberheim DPX-1 Schematics / Service manual wanted. Post by: Elmbeatz on April 12, 2012, 04:07:15 AM WOW, that looks superb!!!
I would prefer to replace the upper 3.5 drive with the hxc (as I still want to be able to read all my EII disks with the big drive). Would you say that could also be done? I'm not really a tech ::) so - could you describe shortly what kind of cable you had to build (and why)? Thank you very very much in advance. Elm. Title: Re: Oberheim DPX-1 Schematics / Service manual wanted. Post by: Futureman on April 12, 2012, 05:50:47 AM With the new Rev F of HxC (in a 3.5" drive bay) I'd imagine it should not be a problem.
(The older version has no chance of fitting in a 3.5" bay) http://torlus.com/floppy/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=871 I've ordered a Rev F for myself which i plan to install in my SP-1200. Then I'll have 3 units with HxC, and I'm planning to install it in my Akai S950 also. Are you reading S950 / Mirage / P2000 disk images? I wonder if the DPX-1 will read E2 images from the other drive? Not something I have tried out. I installed the HxC for a mate, and he was stoked. I just tested that it worked with some of his E2 images and it worked just fine.. If you have HxC in your E2 you could use that to archive your disks to disk images, then use those images in the DPX-1. I guess there are a few options available to you. Post by: Futureman on April 12, 2012, 05:57:31 AM I'm not really a tech ::) so - could you describe shortly what kind of cable you had to build (and why)? The original cable goes from the mother board to the 3.5" drive, then to the 5.25" drive. It uses an IDC connector (50 way from memory) If you are looking at the DPX with it's cover off, it will make perfect sense. The only problem with using the old cable is that the connector (in my case as I took out the 5.25" drive) for the 5.25" drive is a odd and now uncommon connector. This has to be removed and a IDC connector crimped on to the end of the cable as the HxC uses a IDC connector. Thats fine doing that, but then the result is a bit on the short side (if you want to remove the HxC and work on it etc) ....hence, making a new cable that is longer. Also, the old ribbon cable is old and tired, so crimping an IDC connector on it is very difficult. Title: Re: Oberheim DPX-1 Schematics / Service manual wanted. Yes, I also pre-ordered two of the rev-F units some time ago.. lotharek says they're already in production. Hope he'll soon be able to ship the hxcs. And yes - lots of possibilities with those things. But i want to keep it simple - having all sorts of library stuff on the sd card and swapping between EII and DPX via 5.25 disks. I always thought that the disk images (on the dpx-SD-card) have to be dpx converted banks. Is it also possible to share one single sd-card between EII and Dpx that just contains EII files? The DPX will read E2 disk images straight out of an E2 Title: Re: Oberheim DPX-1 Schematics / Service manual wanted. Post by: Elmbeatz on April 12, 2012, 01:18:39 PM How cool is that?!
One more question: Are the EII disk images you're talking of equivalent to the *.EII files (the ones 'sound designer for EII' and emxp are using)?
