Title: Demo of EII library sounds
Post by: buchla on March 10, 2009, 12:12:45 PM
A demo of EMU and OMI CD library sounds from the Emu Emulator II Sampler (does not include the drums from People are People by Depeche Mode) found on Youtube.

yeah, the first sound is one of my favorite sounds "expensive synth..." or also called "Liquid-Stack" in the UOS/Sonic Images-Lib! Great!

Hi Micromoog

Can this liquid-stack bank be found in the UOS 1/2/3 series for EII ?
I checked the index of these volumes but there's no bank with that name.

I just want to try out that great sound on my EII :-)

...ah so my demo showed up here.  :) Expensive Synth/Liquid Stack is my favourite from the entire library. The part played is from the closing parts of People are People, not exactly the same but quite similar to what DM used. Fantastic sound.

JMP - please please please can you post the list of sample names and their banks for your demo.  I recognise 80% of the samples but have little idea what they are called.  Now I have an EII+ I'd like to get hold of some of these.  ;D

Cheers,

Dan.

Irk !  :-\  I selected them whilst browsing through my Mac HD of best sounds... may take a while tracing back to ID them... anyway, will have a go when it's next fired up.

Yes, the index of the demo would be great.

Dan, I think if you get hold of the 3 OMI cdroms and the full Emu factory disk set (both in Sound Designer for EII layout), you'll probably have all sounds used in the demo  :) and a lot more. So many in fact that you would ask JMP again for the index of sounds used in his demo, because these CDROMs contain +1700 banks and it takes days to browse them on a EII/Mac setup.

I must say that once I had access to the full OMI set, my EII is being booted almost daily (instead of once a month in the past). This is a *superb* soundbank collection, especially in combination with the analog processing of the EII (deep basses, warm sound). The same banks sound less interesting on the EIII. As a sampler freak told me once: only use sample CDs with the sampler for which the sample CDs were originally made. I think he was right...

yeah but how boring to use other people's tones.    The stuff i'm doing in Kontakt is
amazing, but my intent of the EII purchase is to warm up my creations.

if you are using the exact same arrangement then maybe you have a point

but I don't see anything wrong with using the same sample bank / patch as someone else.  it is basically like playing the same instrument

No way.. with a sound palette as huge as this you will get lost in it for months.  The Emulators also cry out for the user to tweak the sound eg. filter envelopes so I doubt it's going to feel like you're simply using other people's samples - besides they can always be layered with your Kontakt and resampled into something new.

......that's what sampling is all about  :)

I see the library as a warehouse full of instruments all ready to be played.

Listen to the track 'Dreams' by Ultravox, it's the same sound/theme. They used about 3 or 4 sounds from that soundbank on that track. I got it on a 5.25" disk in a library of about 50 but don't recall coming across it in the Sound Designer banks.... ???

Could be several reasons for this, you'd need to advise more details on the EII, Mac, OS, ports used etc.

You can find the haunting pad sound on the Greytsounds Volume 1 CD-ROM available for many classic samplers as well as in their Akai S-900 floppy sound library - there it's called Fairlight II Soundtrax.

JMP - Please when you can you post the list of sample names and their banks for your demo? What's the name of the preset in Black celebration of Depeche Mode?
Thank you.

Hey JMP, when you release the list of presets of two demos of emulator II?

I'm part way through it. Problem is I'm having to load up all the sounds again to find the ones I chose for the demos, didn't bother writing them down you see.....  ::)

I can list about 2/3 rds of the sounds used in both demos if you want, not sure when I'm going to have the time to find the remainder....

///E-Synthesist

Note that the “usual” Expensive Synth Stack bank contains several incarnations of the “Liquid Stack” stuff, but none of them is “decomposed” so as to e.g. show the pad-like, string-y basis for it. In fact they sound quite similar to each other, the 4 or so patches in the bank, at least when you use it in converted form to soundfonts or EMulator X soft, etc.

Instead there are other versions of this bank around, for instance if you watch one of the EMulator showcases from Youtuber SynthMania you can see he uses 4 variations of Liquid Synth, and the last one is just the pad base. Sounds great for a change!:

https://youtu.be/9nr_IX_KpqY

(I know, I posted a question to him about this issue, but lacking an answer I put myself to task and browsed thru the available converted libraries to see the truth by myself hehe...) (yeah I am too freak!)

It turned out, the EMAX version of the OMI Universe of Sounds comes with the “varied” bank. If someone out there in the forum reading this wants to try the difference, I can provide him/her with a converted soundfont or whatever. (btw I also programmed a different fifth variation myself touching it a bit with the tools provided by EMulator X2 soft, which is great for some of us lacking real access to a real EMulator!)

See attached mp3 file for a listen to my modified pad element-only Liquid Stack variation. I also attached a little screen capture that shows the preset loaded into my EmuX2.

Some interesting trivia: The usual, say, preset 1 for this, can be clearly heard in the line beginning “Love Resurrection” by Christian pop-rock artist Kim Boyce, see how evident in this link:

https://youtu.be/N0ozhOZEoY4

Or is it just me who hears the liquid synth patch there? (with some extra stuff layered, I know...)

Well this is my 2cents worth of patch trivia and parafernalia, for now :)

Happy Emulating!!

This is wrong, IMHO, i just checked (being a preset freak as I am lol!), the preset used is Orch Chords2 in bank Orchestral Chords from the EMU EMulator II original library (disk 65 it seems).

You can listen to the attached mp3 in this message to confirm this (I recorded myself one of the motifs of the JMPSynth demo showcase for this particular patch.) I also upload a little screen capture that shows this bank loaded into my EmuX2 (yep, I love it!)

You’re welcome hehe!  (someone has to do the remaining patch matching as JMPSynth seems out of touch and did not get to complete the list regarding his excellent 2 demo showcases on YouTube...)

Happy Emulating!
