Title: Vangelis piatti sound Post by: JBsoundsynth on March 14, 2013, 12:30:15 PM Hello, I don't know if this is an old topic, but I am curious for many years about this:
What piatti/cymbal crash sound (patch) is used on this track of Vangelis (as an example). It can be heard clearly in the second half and towards the end of the beautiful song "Messages": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZpTTokiCrE And another example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qo2y2q7S5wE I am almost 100% sure it's from Emulator I (or II), the same sound source of the timpani he used a lot during the 80s are from it as well. But is the patch from an orchestral board or something? Thanks in advance. Best regards from the Netherlands Title: Re: Vangelis piatti sound Post by: esynthesist on March 17, 2013, 02:46:03 PM After listening to the Vangelis music, I compared the cymbal crash sounds with my Emulator-I library.
I didn't find an exact match, but one percussion sound set contains a "long" cymbal crash which sounds similar (although at a lower pitch). I don't have a library reference ID for this particular sound set, but on my disk it has been combined with a lower sound set originating from percussion library disk 53. The sound is not exactly the same, especially the beginning is different, perhaps Vangelis combined it with another sound. But to be honest... I think he used another sound source :-\ Title: Re: Vangelis piatti sound Post by: JBsoundsynth on March 19, 2013, 12:11:13 PM Ok, thank you for the investigation!
After posting this question, I thought: maybe he used his own percussion set (he had during the late 70s and early 80s) for sampling the sounds in the emulator? |
