Title: DPX-1 Power supply Post by: Elmbeatz on January 02, 2014, 09:56:08 AM Hi all!
I searched the forum, but haven't found a matching thread, so... Does anybody of you know of a (possibly new) substitute Power supply for the old Phihong PSA-523BU? Mine once caught fire (common), but still worked afterwards. Recently I noticed some ugly background noise coming from the dpx which, I assume, may be caused by the power supply.. I'm not sure though. Best, Elm. P.S.: Does anybody know the specs of the old Phihong? Title: Re: DPX-1 Power supply Post by: gertie on January 05, 2014, 02:25:18 AM i was thinking of using a general pc psu, it may not fit the dpx so could look a bit ghetto, but they also have +5V, +12V and -12V
Output +5V DC 5A/6A Peak Yellow +12V DC2.5A/3.5A Peak Red -12VDC 0.5 A BR some discussion on it here too http://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/showthread.php?t=87739 Title: Re: DPX-1 Power supply Post by: Elmbeatz on January 06, 2014, 03:38:02 AM HI gertie!
Thanks for your reply! Yes, I've been done some browsing on that, too.. :) I was wondering, if a meanwell (see eII PSU discussion) PSU would work? Considering the specs of the original phihong, I think the meanwell T-60B and RT-65B would work, wouldn't they? Also, size-wize these could fit into the dpx.. Greetz, Elm. Meanwell PT65-b http://www.meanwellusa.com/webapp/product/search.aspx?prod=PT-65 This supply fits in the original Phihong enclosure, and requires only minimal soldering to swap the leads from the original to this newer supply. My DPX-1 has blown twice within a couple of years. Therefore I would like a more solid PSU replacement. Best regards Brian Title: Re: DPX-1 Power supply Post by: ACEOFBASS on November 09, 2019, 06:53:07 PM Hey Brian.
Yeah. I've used the this replacement powersupply in a number of my own and client owned DPX-1 units. All of them are working flawlessly. You must connect the Meanwell PSU to a dummy load and trim the voltages before you install it. If you are not a trained electronics engineer, it's best that you have a qualified tech do the upgrade installation for you. All the best, ACE Title: Re: DPX-1 Power supply Post by: brian_ronn on November 11, 2019, 04:57:18 AM Hi Ace
Yes I can also confirm the the Meanwell pt65-b is compatible with the dpx1. I could not fit the Meanwell in the existing metal enclosure without pulling out the the power connector. I had to solder the power directly onto the psu. |
