Title: Strange SP-12 turbo problem Post by: razo on June 26, 2016, 02:36:37 AM When downloading samples from my SP-12 turbo it halts every time at exactly 16 seconds when using both Drumfile and SP-12 Librarian software. When uploading samples it stops at about 17.8 seconds, every time. What could cause this problem?
I have tested sampledumps for other samplers so I know that its not a problem on the Mac SE30 / midiinterface. I did all the tests via the SP-12 Debug Eprom (midi and memory) and they where ok. I also reseated all ics in sockets. Title: Re: Strange SP-12 turbo problem Post by: esynthesist on June 26, 2016, 05:28:11 AM Although I have never heard of this kind of problem when using a vintage Mac (with DrumFile or SP12 Librarian), the problem sounds familiar to me based on my experience when I was adding support for SP12 MIDI communication in the EMXP software.
Perhaps the problem is caused by the MIDI interface connected to your Mac SE30. FYI: the SP12 violates the general MIDI MMA standard when sending SYSEX messages. When transferring large chunks of data (like large samples or full banks) the SP12 will start exchanging incompatible MIDI messages at some point in time. It's not doing this all the time, it depends on the location of the data in its memory. That's why initially (the first 15-20 seconds) everything is working fine. I didn't find any modern MIDI interface (and/or MIDI driver) for Windows or Mac OS X which is able to deal with these incompatible messages from the SP12. As a consequence I had to add specific code to EMXP to try bypassing this issue. But I assumed that the old MIDI interfaces and drivers for Macintoshes were more tolerant and were all able to pass non-MMA SYSEX messages as well. E.g. the OPCODE MIDI TRANSLATOR II interface with OMS should work fine between a Mac and the SP12. But maybe there are some MIDI interfaces for Macintosh which are not that tolerant for non-standard MIDI messages. What MIDI interface are you using ? Title: Re: Strange SP-12 turbo problem Post by: razo on June 26, 2016, 06:14:41 AM Hi, i am using Opcode Studio 4 with oms v 1.2.3 on OS7.1.
I also have an Emagic AMT-8 midiinterface that i could try, but I havenĀ“t found the driver for it yet. Title: Re: Strange SP-12 turbo problem Post by: esynthesist on June 29, 2016, 10:12:58 AM I was hoping that I would have an Opcode Studio 4 available by now in my studio in order to have a look how it reacts on invalid MIDI messages, but I didn't succeed in getting one yet, something went wrong.
But I'm still trying. Title: Re: Strange SP-12 turbo problem Post by: razo on September 21, 2016, 08:02:48 AM .
