Title: Filter comparision between EIIIxp/xs and the ESI Range Post by: vds242 on November 12, 2010, 07:09:45 AM Hello!
Rob from the emulatorarchive told me a few years ago, that the digital 24db filter of the EmaxII and the EIIIxp/xs are the same. I have an E4 Ultra and an ESI 32. The ESI 32 has an ESI/EIIIXP lowpass filter. Sounds this filter identical to the original EIIIxp/xs filter? I don´t want to buy an EIIIxp/xs espacially for the filter sound, when it´s sound very similar to the ESI filter...... In the emulator archive you can read, that the digital filter of the EIIIxp/xs are "a very close approximation to the EIII analog filters"...... IMHO is a huge different between the digital filters in the ESI´s and Ultra´s and the analog filters of the original EIII!!!! So, what sounds the filter of the EIIIxp/xs like...... Thanks in advance! did you read the EIII review at amazona.de (search the archive-few years ago). Peter Grandl made a comparison. Title: Re: Filter comparision between EIIIxp/xs and the ESI Range Post by: vds242 on November 12, 2010, 04:01:44 PM Yes, I know this review.
BUT Peter write only, that there are big differents between the analog filter of the EIII and the digital filter of the EIIIxp and the Ultra. After this review, I don´t know, if there are differents between the two digital filters.... >:( Chris Title: Re: Filter comparision between EIIIxp/xs and the ESI Range Post by: potscrubber on February 11, 2011, 03:02:38 PM I had an ESI for a few years, and I always found it to have a (generalizing here) peaky nasal type quality to the sound, that I could never enjoy, no matter what I sampled. I don't know if it was the filter design, or the analog output electronics, but it never sounded great to me. I never heard an EIII/xp in the flesh but all reports are that they sound fantastic. I would make a guess that these at least have better analog opamps etc, thats just a guess. Anyway, before the ESI I had an original Emax (sounded great), my friend has a E4X (sounds great, though a 'digital quality), and now I have an EIII (sounds superb).
