Look under the database section. Yes, the Powerbook 165/180's work but not everything is always 100%, different Mac's require different settings etc. as you'll see on the Mac info list.
I suppose the best computer connection would be the one with the best spec/largest HD for storing sounds..? The Mac Classic's etc. have small hard drives, usually 40-120MB which soon fill up. External SCSI hard/zip drives are always an option though. As for crashing, all computers crash so wouldn't say one is better than another. I trust you've checked what revision your EII is...? I have a working Mac Classic with SD installed & Cable & SCSI CD drive & CD. I'm waiting on my HxC to arrive, then I'm gonna install it in my EII. After I get it all working, I was going to sell off the Mac and everything else as I won't be needing it. Trust me when I say getting my EII to talk to the Mac was not the most pleasant journey.. 4x Macs and I eventually got there... even more of a pain in the arse when you only have a PC. It aged me. Same here, tried loads of times with that single serial port and no luck here either....
