Title: How to copy EII sound banks from floppy discs to sd card in HxC floppy emulator?
Post by: Alponum on November 11, 2011, 10:42:10 AM
Hello!
I recently installed a SDcard HxC floppy emulator
to my EII. It took me two days to get it work somehow.
It was really a struggle since im not very good tech :)

Please can you tell me what should I do to copy
discs with EII to sd card? I have floppy drive as
a drive A and HxC SDcard as a drive B.

I actually managed to copy two discs to a sd card but then
I changed something and now Im back to square one.
When I try to copy disc first the EII lcd says this will take a while
and then when its  about to start reading the sd card the lcd says reading  error.

What setups and files should I need to have on the sd card to get it
done?

Please help me thank you!

I tried to use the OS overlay files provided
at http://www.emxp.net/Additional_downloads.htm
but EII says please insert perf disc.

I also tried to save on the allready working
two sound banks that I somehow managed
to make. But everytime it first starts to read
the floppy drive A and when starting with the
HxC it just stops at T:011/080 S:0 and EII
lcd tells me "disc read error".

What set ups should I have in the "Load raw image"
at the HxC floppy emulator soft? I'm using software
version 1.6.11.15 and firmware version 1.6.0.0.

I'm really confused here :)

To make sure you have installed the SD HxC 100 pct correct, did you double check some other threads like:
http://eiiiforum.com/index.php?topic=1250.0
http://eiiiforum.com/index.php?topic=1174.0
http://eiiiforum.com/index.php?topic=1187.0

How is the HxC installed ? with a twisted cable or not ? which jumper is set on the HxC ?
Is the floppy drive the terminated one or the unterminated one (the two EII drives are different !) ?

Normally the overlay files from the www.emxp.net files are perfectly bootable and loadable disk images, containing a NULL PRESET.
Are you even having problems when simply loading these images (=booting or "get disk"), or only when you want to overwrite them with a bank from the floppy disk in your E-II ?
(copying a floppy disk to the SD HxC indeed requires an existing EII .HFE image on the SD card which must be selected first on the SD HxC and then you can overwrite it. An .HFE image is required just like a floppy disk would have been required  with a floppy drive. The .HFE file is the virtual version of a floppy disk, it's required both for read and write actions)

When creating empty disk images for the EII with the HxC Windows software on your PC, make sure to set the interface mode to Emu Shugart. There's an automatic mode too, but I only trust the "hard configured way" :-)

Hi,

For any problem with the HxC Floppy Emulator don't hesistate to contact us :

- HxC Floppy Emulator support forum : http://torlus.com/floppy/forum/index.php
- HxC Floppy Emulator support email contact : http://hxc2001.free.fr/imiel.htm

About your problem, as esynthesist said, we need more details of your setup. This could be a jumper setting / floppy cable or floppy disk drive termination problem.
