Hi All,

I finally finished the drop in replacement power supply for the EIII.  You can find it on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/266812981909

The footprint, mounting holes, and connectors are identical to the original which allows for easy, trouble-free replacement.  The input and output connectors are labelled with their respective names and/or voltages, which allows for quick identification and troubleshooting in the future.  The only 'modification' required is to cut and remove the voltage selector switch wires, or coil them up and zip-tie them out of the way.

I have provided additional solder through holes for the 5V supply and the Stereo Relay Modification.  You will find some EIIIs with the 5V wires soldered directly to the Molex pins.  This is acceptable and will provide a reasonably robust connection, but I decided that proper through holes would be most beneficial for anyone looking to reduce the resistive losses associated with using the original cable and Molex connector.

The Stereo Relay Modification is present for those who wish to easily bypass the output relays.  There is a ribbon cable that is known to fail, which mutes the output relays.  You can repair the ribbon cable, but some folks prefer to enable the relays always on.

Power Supply Specifications:

Input: 100-240VAC

Output:
  +5V @ 15A (20A max peak)
+12V @ 5A
+15V @ 1.4A
 -15V @ 1.4A

Let me know if you all have any questions.

-Chris

Hi Brian,

Apologies for my delay.  I do offer an Emax PSU replacement.  It fits the Emax, Emax II, and EIIIXP.  You can find it on eBay here:

I also just realized I posted the update about the EII PSU in the Emax II technical issues category  Roll Eyes ...

Hi,

Thanks again!  I've got an S1000 on the bench now, but as soon as it is working, I will respond with answers to your questions.

Hi there!

1 which LED is exactly not working?
2 as for sliders:
a) the easy way is to recalibrate EIII - in master section
b) second - check the power connector and cables and voltage on the top left connector of card cartridge
c) and the hard part if there is a faulty ICs on ADC board.
Btw, does the wheels work?

Good luck!

Hi Deft and Tony!  Thank you for your interest in my post!  Unfortunately, I have not gotten my EIII repaired.  As I recall, the sliders do not work fully and one of the front panel LEDS does not light.  I've successfully done a fair amount of work to the unit, but replacing the ribbon cable between the front panel and the rest of the unit was a bridge too far for me.  I imagine it won't be a huge repair job, but there is obviously something I don't understand about how the ribbon connects and/or my solder skills suck!

Any suggestions?

Haven't posted in years, but I still have my EII, and it still means everything to me. Here's proof! (yes it is real)

As a reply to my own question. Bass mobile sells the 32 MB ram upgrade for the EIIIx. It is not cheap though:

Best regards Brian

These are no longer available on Reverb.com.
However,  we have E3X memory upgrade kits if you want, email: "e3x_ram (@) synthesizer (dot) repair"
Cheers and happy Emulating!

Hi all,

I have an EIIIx that *may* have been an engineering testbed/prototype at E-mu.

The unit boots with "Firmware H-sp" and OS "Pre-release" on power up and "2.10 beta" when I check the software version.

If you want to sell this machine, please get in touch!
