I recently acquired the black reissue (in beautyful condition I have to say).
It's the same machine as the original grey one, except for a "better" power supply, fatter slider caps and another type of on/off switch. Everything inside's the same (including the two 2044s). These things even got the original SP-12 design user Panel PCB.

Nevertheless I'm still looking for a GREY one (Preferrably with LARGE lettering on the back).

you do realise European models original grey sp1200's , said emu systems sp1200 and not sp1200 only ,

as emu was not so popular in Europe they changed the lettering to Emu-systems sp1200.

if you find a original European sp1200 it will state emu-systems sp1200 as I was one of the first to receive a sp1200 in the UK from emu systems ltd in Scotland, have the sticker on v1.0 manual to verify this.

do not believe in the myths you have read elsewhere, usa first models said sp1200 only but first euro ones had emu systems sp1200, then im not exactly sure of the history but all the black reissues they stuck with emu systems sp1200 both euro and usa.

noisy powersupply not better, I sold a black resissue because of the powersupply , you could hear digital garbage in the audio signal.

I always wondered why some grey ones just had "SP1200" on the back while other grey ones had the whole company-name printed on the back in addition ...

Well, meanwhile I own a reissue as well as a grey one - both with the "E-Mu Systems" addition on their back. I got the grey one from Canada though...

Btw. - I haven't heard any artifacts coming from the black's PSU yet.

no problem, its often a common myth,

also regarding the noise on my now sold reissue,  when accessing any parameters or editing functions when sound is playing, accessing files or saving to floppy, the noise was slight  but with a trained ear you hear it and gets more noticeable once you know what to "look" for.
often copmpression brought it out more as the dynamics are tamed and lower level signals are brought up.


Congratulations on getting your grey sp 1200 could be the case of every sp1200 grey that was not sold in the usa was labelled with emu systems, not sure, but I know for certain that euro models never arrived with just sp1200.

Same goes for final edition re-issues and "Emulator SP-12" labelled SP-12s
