Hi !
Well it seems to be my turn now Wink
I recieved my Aztecmonster Stratos few days ago, and unfortunatly i cannot make my EIII boot from the CF.

First, just take a look on my setup (maybe i did a mistake ?)

EIII KB 8Mb
Aztecmonster Stratos : SCSI - ID 1 / TRM ON
(like it is on the picture here http://eiiiforum.com/index.php?topic=1912.0)
CF : Kingston 1Gb (the one with the flower)
PSU +5V : i have 5,03V

So, the first time, i totally forgot this thing about "Interleave" in the manual.
I did a "normal" (or Standard if you prefer) formating. It took 2 hours.
After that, everthing was apparently good. No problem concerning the Software Copy and also save & load a blank bank.
But it didn't boot from the CF !

Then i tryed to format in Interleave 9-7 and 3.
Each time it's the same story :
During the "Format Verifying" after approx 1h, the "little wheel" or "time display" (i don"t know how you call it?)
is frozen !
I've been waiting and checking each time during 2/3h nothing changed.
The EIII was like Blocked.

I don't understand, is it the card or something else ?

Please, can someone help me ?

I had the same problem. I could not get the Kinston 2gb white flower to boot. It would format and I could copy SYS software to it. But I still need floppy to boot.

The solution in my case was to first try a smaller card size 128 mb to speed formatting and use Interleave 9. I tried to cards one sandisk and one fuji. Sandisk worked Fuji did not. I was able to boot with sandisk.

I then used a sandisk 1gb  and that worked. I had no luck with Kingston. The SCSI is very sensitive on these units you just need some patience to find the right combination.

Good luck

I also have had success using the 1GB SanDisk CF media with the AztecMonster as my internal (SCSI ID#1) boot disk.

I see that you have the trim jumper enabled. That would cause my scsi scan on statrup to frezze. I had to remove the jumper to get mine to scan and boot.

Hi,

I use a Aztecmonster on my EIII with a CF 1Gb.
I had some trouble, but I format the CF with a external CF adaptor on my macbook.
I format it with a Mac format, and after i format with the EIII

It boot it.... the boot sequence is strange .... it will count 2 times since 7 the second time 5 to 7 it's very speedy and offten is boot.

I hope it's help you.

regards

Hi guys,

First, many thanks for your help !

Well, something new happened yesterday...
I tried again  to format the kingston CF (interleave 9), and this time it worked !
I was able to copy the software and also save and load a blank bank.
But... as you said "smokie", it doesnt boot at all. Unfortunatly.
Just to see, I also turned the TRM OFF, but there is no difference (blocked at scsi 5 or 6).

I also tried the same method as "matou" with another Kingston 1GB (the one with the cameleon).
Doesnt work. I always get "scsi hardware error".

So the best thing to do, is to catch a Sandisk CF.
This one, right ?

I will let you know if it's work (or not).

ps :By the way "matou", what kind of CF card did you put in your EIII ?

Yes that is the one I used. I'm curious why your scsi scan stops with the jumper off the terminate.

Does it scan the scsi bus with other cards installed ?. If you can't get it to cycle you will never be able to boot as it will cycle a couple of times before it catches the Cf card this is normal operation.

I would investagate this as it should boot off a 9 format at least all 3 of my cards worked. Again the most difficult was finding a card that would format succefully.

Where do you live worst case I could mail you a preformatted card.
