EDIT: But please note that buying an HDX20 is no good if you own a plain DPX-1. In the days when the HDX could be bought in stores it included a kit that you needed to install in your DPX-1 in order for it to work. The kit included an OS upgrade/more ram/connctor/and more. You can not get a standart DPX1 to talk to an HDX if your DPX1 does not have these special parts already. At least the seller of the lone HDX20 should include these parts needed in the DPX-1, but this is not likely to happen.
If you want the HDX then search for a DPX-1+HDX-20 set where everything is included (and working).
An HDX-20 at sale alone is only good for spare use for a owner of an DPX-1 that has the HDX kit installed already.
If the 38 MB 5,25" (very noisy) HD in an HDX has died , then there's a internal SCSI connector to connect an 20 MB SCSI type 1 HD. The 38 mb HD that is in the HDX originally, is only formattet to 20 MB since this is the max it can handle, and since it's used to emulate the HD in the E2 and Emax 1 HD, and these are 20 MB size only (and can not format bigger). It is not an SCSI HD that is in the HDX originally. It's an ST412 interface 38 MB HD (why they choose this special model oversized HD is a mystery, since SCSI had entered the scene at the time. But they might have been able to get the ST412 HD's cheaper than the 20 MB SCSI hd's. They must also had known that the St412 was running out of stock since they placed an SCSI connector alongside the ST412 in case, if people should need a replacement drive at some point.
I have a few NEW 20 mb Conner 3.5" low noise mode 1 HD's for the HDX and Emax 1. Only a few models of HD's works in Emax 1 and HDX, and the E2 has an special (super noisy) Miniscribe that im not sure that you can replace with the 20 mb Conner (but i will try it out if i get an E2+).
