Did you get anywhere on these?

Been searching for replacement LCD myself today. Only ones I could find had slightly different sizes and viewing areas to the original (by mm) and with no backlights. After a search here and on the Yahoo EII Users site I've not been able to find details of an available replacement.

Had a reply from SP1200 LCD replacing engineer in US (www.forat.com):

'The ones that we use have LED backlight (Blue/ White text) same as what you see offered for the SP1200 on our site at www.forat.com/service however they are not direct replacements and require mods. There's someone selling the original SP1200 displays on eBay and I think it should work on the EII as well':

http://cgi.ebay.com/E-MU-EMU-SP1200-SP-1200-SP-1200-Replacement-Display-/290475275179?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43a1acf3ab

$104 is steep but attempting to clarify the make/model of these with the seller. Also found someone in UK that appears to have replaced theirs and will update if/when further details come back.

Are you guys replacing the Display because it does not work, or is the back light dead?
I got my EII with a dead back light, so I ordered a blue EL Foil for about $15 and replaced it my self. I will post a picture once I get home. If you are not careful you can damage the entire display. The first time I did it there was a dead line on the display, but since the first back light wasn't working I got a replacement. When I put it all back together the second time it worked properly. The back light is not perfect, but for a first timer I think it works fine.

decided to replace most of displays in my studio equipment that are dead or allmost at end of life ..
most synths is now hard to edit due ageing of backlight on displays so....

So I started with EMU - SP12

ordered display from Ebay for cca 5$ ...that displays need some work to be instaled in SP12 so here is picture how was that with old display and how it looks with New one!

Needed some small main PCB modification on SP12 control board, used 5v for led backlight from LEDs on SP12!!!
only problem is wiring!!!

on SP12 pcb its 1-14
and on Display is 14-1 so wires need too be crosed .. (or flat cable if you use it!!!)
-on pin 3 is LCD contrast and i used 10K multitrim turn pot that works just fine to adjust display !!!

Before

AFTER

Removed hi voltage from system.. made by inverter for backlight in original Display, also no more HI frequency sound from inverter!!!

Looks clean and will live a long life

display really looks like this on picture and its fun to work normal again on SP12 now !!

5$ is bargin since guys on web ask for backlight cca 25$ ..

this will fit (with some small work) SP12, SP1200, EII!!! I checked that!!! and wont fit into EMAX!!!!!!

Her roginator,

Yeah let us see the display in action. How is the viewing angle? The original SP12/SP1200/EII have a very small viewing angle, is the display you are using better? Where are the red and black wires that go by the Volume Knob connected to? Are they connected on the LCD Inverter leads?

Thanks.

HEY THANX FOR PICTURES!!!

Well if you ask me....

I would not use hot glue!!!!
it can be made far more easy!!!

OK let me explain!!!

Ill make some pictures soon!!!!

WHY PPL PAY 175 $ really dunno since first next cheeper thing is to get NORITAKE VFD that is 50+$ and fit without MODS!!!

4 reasons WHY PEOPLE PAY MORE.. and they must pay a lot!

1. they dont know tricks (tricks are expensive to learn)
2. ppl dont have experience in electronics
3. no time to do it
4. or they are lazy!!!

first 3 we can fix but fourth kinda ppl .. we cant help hahahah

I spent 2 hours working on display and i have some experience .. so 2 hours of work + parts and you are on 120$ ... + some VAT .....

I agree that price is ok for srvice to do that job .. but we can DIY that stuff to!!! .... that cut price a lot!

Dimensional Space please don't ask members of the forum for something, and then immediately follow it up with more questions without offering more useful knowledge or $ to get the hardware/mod completed.  Do a little more work on your own to become a tech or pay a tech.
