Hello, sorry for barging in with a question but I just got my drumulator and it is quite noisy.

I get this kind of HUM and and buzz i go crazy. i mean it also comes from the single outputs (from the toms I cant hear it but maybe because it goes through the filters and they filter it out??)

also the metronome is really noisey i mean when i plug the metronome out its really really noisy, any idea?

is it the powersupply? or something else?

thanks so much! i really was looking for so long for a good midi drumulator and till i got one its not working good Sad

You sent me a message through YouTube I didn't get a chance to respond to.

The pictures I'm finding on-line of the Drumulator opened up don't seem to be like mine.  I haven't had it open in a long time though.

In mine there was a series of black, inch-high, and  arched either resistors or capacitors -- I'm not sure which.  When they were touching each other there was hum; when not touching each other, it was fine.  Your milage may vary.

Helllo , thanks for reply.

Ill upload some photos just to be more clear.

There is a buzzing sound and a high pitch ring. from mix out and all the other outputs besides the toms which are more or less clear! (yeah considering its a 2something old)
the metronome out has A LOT of buzz to it, and the rest has both a buzz and the ringing.

i think i know what u mean by the spider resistors bt  i didnt see any problems with them.

Yours doesn't have them either . . .

Maybe I have an old revision?  Who knows.

Until then, I would just open it up while turned on.  Be careful not to touch capacitors, and push down on some chips -- see if any connections are corroded.  Wiggle things around and see what makes it go away.

I fixed hundreds of them, but never seen one like that with daughter boards.

Scared out, I run away....

I think that's his MIDI upgrade.

Good to know you can fix them though.  Mine will likely need a tuneup in the future.

Did you buy it from this auction? If not, the seller might be able to help with schematics for the sound expansion and MIDI upgrade.

Please verify the power supply voltages first.
As well, the caps in the red frame are often sensitive to torsion, etc...

I changed it :

go to : http://cjoint.com/?dntN2lyjfk

Move a bit the caps, bend them, see if there is a change.

Do you need the diagrams ?

MIDI Mod ! It looks like it !

My God...
The original ones from E-Mu were not even one inch by side and there was the OS Eprom to change, that's all !

Geee....

The hum problems sounds like a bad power supply.  As far as the noise goes... Pick up a Behringer Denoiser.  Wow, what a difference.  I hate Behringer stuff but this unit is no joke.  I use it on the Sp1200 and it really cleans up the ambient hiss and rounds out the sound too like a compressor.   I use the Expander sparingly also which helps round out kicks etc. .     I think I will eventually replace it with a Presonus ACP-88 when I pick one up again.   But anyone that doesn't like the SP-12/1200 noise should pick a Denoiser.   Recommended.

Thanks for the tip!
Which exact unit are you talking of?
