This same thing happened to me when me EII was sent to me in the post.
I opened the unit up and found that the added memory board (the board on top of the main board) had come out of its socket. I pushed it back in and closed the lid and luckily for me this fixed it.

I replaced a bad chip on the memory board, made sure the board was securely fastened and everything appears to be working except the top seven keys.  I'm at a loss. Huh

I also created a separate thread called "dead key range" and will stop posting here.
