I am trying to resolve a memory error and after swapping one of the chips on the piggyback board, I get the message "GOoDRy" when running the memory test operation.

What does that mean?

I was having issues with dead voices.  I read on this forum that S3528 can cause this problem.  As suggested, I first tried cleaning the contacts, but that did not work.  Next, I tried replacing S3528 with S3528B chips for the two voices that were dead.  So far, it appears to have worked.  I will update this thread if I find otherwise.

One bit of advice that may seem obvious, be careful not to count the voices from left to right when looking at the PCBs and the EII facing you.  Instead, count from right to left with voice 8 being the one furthest to the left.  Again, pretty obvious, but I almost replaced the chips for the wrong voices.

I`ve finally got it - its not a PAL jedecs, its a GAL, and probably its not a 4 and 8mb, its probably version A and B...
For those who don't know - GAL is the next generation for PAL, and it can replace the old PALs

Hello!

Just checked your file, and it`s something weird with it. First, I dont understand why there is two versions 4 and 8 mb, IC27 is not affecting memory size and not replaced when you upgrade memory, second - IC27 is MMI PAL16L8A and in your file there is a description of PAL16V8 - I never heard of pal16V8 chips...

Examining the jedec files and comparing it with my copy - they are quite different, and I was not able to load and burn them as a PAL16L8 jedecs to my programmer.

Where did you get them? do you have any other jedec files for EIII?

Regards,
Kirill

I recently had a very misbehaving Eiii keyboard that had same issues on 5 channels.

Sometimes you can clean the jack contacts with MG Chemicals "401B Nu-TROL"  contact cleaner.  Try this before you replace the jacks

The next thing is to remove the analog jack board and replacing the jacks as warranted, they have a mechanical lifespan and once they get too old, and "unsprung" it warrants replacement.

In this situation I had plenty of brand new jacks on hand, so  removed the jacks from the failing channels, and replaced them with new jacks.

This resolved the issue.  It had nothing to do with the calibration of the machine.
But that is not to discount that improper calibration can cause similar issues. It is worth looking if you are facing similar issues with your machine, look to the jacks first.

Happy emulating!

Someone is selling emax for 300$ on facebook,

https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/335695912899830

I consider it worth buying for IM368 cannibalization for EIII...

I could provide the files in the attachment from my archive. I have not checked or used them but maybe these could help?

Cheers

Hi Thomas,

you could check the burn-service offered by Batronix (batronix.com, contact them for an individual offer). I had good experience with them and it is not expensive. Used this service to copy some pal chips for my Kurzweil 250, was fast and reliable.

Cheers

Alex

Hi guys, this is my first post and I'm curious to know the differences between the original EIII keyboard version vs the EIII rack version.  I know the XS and XP are sample playback versions that can be upgraded to be full fledged samplers but i assume the EIII rack is pretty much the same as the keyboard version.

My main interest in it's analog architecture;  do all the variations have the same VCA and VCFs that the original EIII has?

Many explanations in the differences are more about the total voices, polyphony and the hardware differences and capabilities rather than what I'm interested in.

Thanks in advance if anyone has knowledge about this.
