I'm not really a tech
so - could you describe shortly what kind of cable you had to build (and why)?
The original cable goes from the mother board to the 3.5" drive, then to the 5.25" drive.
It uses an IDC connector (50 way from memory)
If you are looking at the DPX with it's cover off, it will make perfect sense.
The only problem with using the old cable is that the connector (in my case as I took out the 5.25" drive) for the 5.25" drive is a odd and now uncommon connector. This has to be removed and a IDC connector crimped on to the end of the cable as the HxC uses a IDC connector.
Thats fine doing that, but then the result is a bit on the short side (if you want to remove the HxC and work on it etc)
....hence, making a new cable that is longer.
Also, the old ribbon cable is old and tired, so crimping an IDC connector on it is very difficult.
