UST disk

I've got a copy of the UST disk for the EIII. It was on the HD of David Morley's EIII and he gladly let me copy it.

I would love to make a disk image of this so that it's available online for everybody who needs it.

But, I don't have a Win XP PC to use with omniflop.

I've only got a collection of old and new Apple computers. But I'm not aware of a program like omniflop for Mac.

I do however still have a PC running Win 95. Does anybody know if it's possible to create an EIII disk image with omnidisk? I'd like to know if it works before I setup the PC.

If not, does anybody else have a solution?

OmniDisk should be able to use the job.
It's a long time I've used OmniDisk so I can't tell you the command details anymore...
... but you just have to make sure you read the floppy disk with 80 tracks, 2 heads=sides, 10 sectors/track and sectorsize=512 bytes.

I'm in the middle of moving from one house to another, but within 2 weeks or so I'm able to make a very small program for Win95/DOS which can read your UST disk, if OmniDisk won't work.

It would be great to have the UST disk online for everybody.

By the way: UST = Universal Sound Test.

The UST disk is used to calibrate the EIII voices and filters.
It's a procedure that's described in the service manual. But without the UST disk you won't be able to perform the calibration.

If I'm not mistaken you're also from Belgium. If I'm not able to create an image file from the UST disk I could mail you a copy of the disk. Perhaps you can than put an image online?

Feel free to send me the disk by postal mail, I will make an image for the group as soon as I receive the disk !
Just let me know when you don't succeed in copying the disk yourself.

I've succeeded in creating a clone disk of the EIII UST disk using omnidisk.

Here's the procedure to create your own UST disk:

1. Use a Win95 PC with an internal disk drive
2. Download and install Omnidisk on that PC - http://www.shlock.co.uk/Utils/OmniDisk/OmniDisk.htm
3. Download the UST image file at http://apple.phl.be/~dvdborn/EIII_UST and copy it in the omnidisk folder
4. Run Omnidisk in DOS mode
5. Insert an EIII formatted disk in the drive from the PC
6. Type Write from EIII_UST and wait

Your UST disk is now ready

The disk that I cloned also had OS 2.42 on it but for some reason Omnidisk didn't copy that.
Too bad... It would have been great to distribute the OS that way.

I imagine that you can also create your own UST disk image using Omniflop on a Win XP PC. But I haven't tried this myself. Perhaps someone else can try this?

Thx David... but I seem to have problems with downloading that image.
Is EIII_UST really the image, or just a folder ?

Anyway, if the source disk contained OS 2.42 and the target image doesn't then I guess the copy process didn't go well !
OmniDisk doesn't care at all about what's on the disk, so if things are missing in the outputfile, there's a big chance that even the UST bank is corrupt on some points.

I will create diskimages of both the EIIIX OS and the EIII OS soon (OmniDisk and OmniFlop compatible).
These will be downloadable from my homepage, but also on this board (I guess, depends on the administrator :-)

Let the OS disks come.

Well I just checked my original UST disk and I was wrong. The original disk did not contain the OS. So there you go. The UST disk shouldn't be corrupt.

I must have reformatted the disk before I copied the UST programs onto it.

I have successfully made a UST disk with the image above, with a windows XP computer and omniflop. For my, it was necessarily to tape over the hole on the 1.44 mb floppy disk, on both sides, format the disk in the eiii and then use omniflop to write the image to disk. I had to add the extension .img on to the image in order to open it with omniflop. I was then able to copy the preset bank onto the eiii and it worked.

I've got a stuff called EMXP .206 wich apparently transfers emu files thru XP.

Is there an FTP where I can put it so everyone can load it ?
